FIRE SAFETY IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT

Statistics reveal in England 2017/18, there were 334 fire-related fatalities (including 71 from the Grenfell Tower fire) compared with 263 in the previous year (an increase of 27%), and 3,306 non-fatal casualties requiring hospital treatment.

Smoke detectors are very important in alerting you to smoke or a fire, but all they can do is alert you, it requires a sprinkler system to activate and extinguish the fire whether it is occupied or not.

Sprinkler systems are a necessity, and with building regulations now in place they are a legal requirement in high-rise buildings above 30m (roughly 10 floors) although some councils are advising landlords with occupants above 3 floors to install them.

Aesthetically pleasing, and actually allowing for more freedom of design, sprinkler systems are leading the way in fire prevention, with no loss of life recorded in the UK where there was a sprinkler system installed.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

There is very little chance of this. Smoke, dust, fumes, or humidity will not cause the sprinkler to activate, it requires temperatures above a predetermined temperature (typically 65-68 degrees)

No, only the sprinkler closest to the fire will operate in the event of an incident.

Sprinkler systems cause less damage than the water from a firefighters hose, and may have extinguished the fire before a fire engine could get onsite.

A grid of pipes cover all areas to be protected with sprinkler heads at specific intervals, in the event of a fire the sprinkler head above the fire will be activated.
